Several questions about the compound remain unresolved. The durability of weight reduction after treatment stops, the frequency of gastrointestinal side effects, and the long-term cardiovascular profile are topics of ongoing study. Regulatory submissions and phase 3 trial outcomes have not been fully reported in the public literature. Because most available data come from controlled trials rather than general-population use, conclusions about effectiveness outside study settings are provisional. The distinction between established findings and open questions matters when interpreting early coverage of the drug.
Retatrutide is an investigational peptide developed by a pharmaceutical company as a multi-receptor agonist for treating obesity and type 2 diabetes. The compound emerged from research into gut-hormone analogues that act on several receptors simultaneously rather than on a single target. Early preclinical work examined how combined activity at three distinct receptors might produce greater metabolic effects than single-receptor compounds. Published phase 2 results have described substantial reductions in body weight among participants, although the compound remains unapproved in most jurisdictions as of the mid-2020s.

The peptide backbone is chemically modified to resist rapid enzymatic breakdown in the body. A fatty acid side chain promotes binding to serum albumin, which slows renal clearance and supports an extended circulation time. These modifications allow less frequent administration than would be possible with an unmodified peptide. The precise contribution of glucagon receptor activation to the overall metabolic effect remains an area of active investigation, because glucagon raises glucose while also increasing energy expenditure.
Development has progressed through early- and mid-stage human studies in adults with obesity and with type 2 diabetes. Published phase 2 data reported reductions in body weight and improvements in glycemic markers over the treatment period. No regulatory agency has approved the compound for any indication, and it remains available only within controlled research settings. Whether benefits observed in trials translate into durable outcomes after treatment stops is not yet established.
Retatrutide is an investigational synthetic peptide that acts as an agonist at three distinct G protein-coupled receptors. It combines activity at the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor, the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide receptor, and the glucagon receptor within a single molecule. This multi-receptor profile distinguishes it from earlier incretin-based compounds that engage one or two of these pathways. Researchers designed the molecule to test whether simultaneous activation produces greater metabolic effects than single or dual agonism alone.
The three-receptor design places retatrutide in a distinct category relative to older incretin-based therapies. Single agonists target one receptor, and dual agonists target two. Adding a third target broadens the pharmacological footprint and introduces new trade-offs among efficacy, tolerability, and glucose control. How these trade-offs resolve in large trials is a central focus of current research.
Retatrutide is an investigational peptide studied for obesity and type 2 diabetes. It is a single synthetic molecule designed to activate three metabolic receptors simultaneously. The compound belongs to the incretin mimetic family, a group of peptides that imitate gut hormones involved in appetite and glucose control. Its research code is LY3437943, and it remains under clinical study rather than cleared for routine medical use.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup was the 23rd FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international men's soccer championship contested by the national teams of the member associations of FIFA. The tournament began on June 11, 2026, and concluded on July 19 with Spain winning the championship for the second time. It was jointly hosted by 16 cities—11 in the United States, 3 in Mexico, and 2 in Canada. The tournament was the first FIFA World Cup to be hosted by three countries and the first to include 48 teams, an expansion from the previous 32-team format. The 2026 tournament was the second World Cup to be hosted by multiple nations, after the 2002 edition. Mexico became the first country to host the World Cup three times, having hosted the 1970 and 1986 tournaments. The United States previously hosted the World Cup in 1994, while it was Canada's first time hosting the tournament. The event returned to its traditional June–July schedule after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which was uniquely held in November and December to avoid Qatar's extreme summer heat. Canada, Mexico, and the United States qualified automatically as hosts, while Cape Verde, Curaçao, Jordan, and Uzbekistan made their World Cup debuts. For the first time in the tournament's history, the top four teams from the FIFA Men's World Ranking at the time of the contest (Argentina, Spain, France, and England) advanced to the semifinals. Spain won the final against defending champion Argentina 1–0 after extra time, winning its second title and first since 2010.
John Bennett Fenn (June 15, 1917 – December 10, 2010) was an American analytical chemist who was awarded a share of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2002, sharing half of the award with Koichi Tanaka for their work in mass spectrometry (the other half went to Kurt Wüthrich). His contributions related to the development of electrospray ionization, now a commonly used technique for large molecules and routine liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Early in his career, he studied the field of jet propulsion at Project SQUID and focused on molecular beams. He finished his career with more than 100 publications, including one book. Fenn was born in New York City, and moved to Kentucky with his family during the Great Depression. Fenn did his undergraduate work at Berea College, and received his PhD from Yale. He worked in industry at Monsanto and at private research labs before moving to academic posts including Yale and Virginia Commonwealth University. Fenn's research into electrospray ionization found him at the center of a legal dispute with Yale University. He lost the lawsuit, after it was determined that he misled the university about the potential usefulness of the technology. Yale was awarded $500,000 in legal fees and $545,000 in damages. The decision pleased the university, but provoked mixed responses from some people affiliated with the institution, who were disappointed with the treatment of a Nobel Prize winner with such a long history at the school.
=== Pharmacodynamics === Benzodiazepine like compounds are acting as positive allosteric modulators to the gamma-aminobutyric acid GABAA receptor. GABA is the main inhibitor of neurotransmitters in the brain and modulates the activity of many neurons. Benzodiazepines bind to the GABAA receptor inducing a conformational change leading to an increased affinity to GABA. The allosteric binding site is situated in a "pocket" created by the alpha and gamma subunits. The pharmacological effects on benzodiazepines vary based on which alpha subunit of the GABAA receptor the benzodiazepine binds to. The sedative, anterograde amnesic, anticonvulsant actions, and the addictive nature of benzodiazepines, are due to the binding to the α1 subunit of the (GABA)A receptor. Binding to the α2 subunit will cause the anxiolytic effects, and binding to the α2, α3, and α5 subunits will lead to the myorelaxant effects. According to research done by the WHO bromazolam binds to the α1, α2, and α5 subunits.

After 1990s new memoirs and archival materials have opened up the study of espionage and intelligence during the Cold War. Scholars are reviewing how its origins, its course, and its outcome were shaped by the intelligence activities of the United States, the Soviet Union, and other key countries. Special attention is paid to how complex images of one's adversaries were shaped by secret intelligence that is now publicly known.
=== Sources === The seeds of Ricinus communis are commonly crushed to extract castor oil. As ricin is not oil-soluble, little is found in the extracted castor oil. The extracted oil is also heated to more than 80 °C (176 °F) to denature any ricin that may be present. The remaining spent crushed seeds, called variously the "cake", "oil cake", and "press cake", can contain up to 5% ricin. While the oil cake from coconut, peanuts, and sometimes cotton seeds can be used as cattle feed or fertilizer, the toxic nature of castor beans precludes their oil cake from being used as feed unless the ricin is first deactivated by autoclaving. Accidental ingestion of Ricinus communis cake intended for fertilizer has been reported to be responsible for fatal ricin poisoning in animals. Deaths from ingesting castor plant seeds are rare, partly because of their indigestible seed coat, and because some of the ricin is deactivated in the stomach. The pulp from eight beans is considered dangerous to an adult. Rauber and Heard have written that close examination of early 20th century case reports indicates that public and professional perceptions of ricin toxicity "do not accurately reflect the capabilities of modern medical management". Most acute poisoning episodes in humans are the result of oral ingestion of castor beans, 5–20 of which could prove fatal to an adult. Swallowing castor beans rarely proves to be fatal unless the bean is thoroughly chewed. The survival rate of castor bean ingestion is 98%. In 2013 a 37-year-old woman in the United States survived after ingesting 30 beans.
This suggests that the increase in IGF-1 may not be specific to cow's milk, and may be caused by protein, minerals, or some other factors in milk unrelated to rBGH. There have been no direct comparisons of IGF-1 levels in people who drink ordinary cow's milk vs. milk stimulated by rBST. At this time, it is not clear that drinking milk, produced with or without rBST treatment, increases blood IGF-1 levels into a range that might be of concern regarding cancer risk or other health effects. IGF-1 concentrations are slightly higher (to variable degrees, depending on the study) in milk from cows treated with rBST than in untreated milk. This variability is presumed to be much less than the normal range of variation of IGF-1 in cow's milk due to natural factors, but more research is needed." As of 2014, evidence does not link rBST-treated milk with adverse health outcomes for children. Several studies have looked at the relationship between type 1 diabetes mellitus and infant feeding. Environmental triggers that may elicit an autoimmune reaction is the mechanism in which is being studied. Some studies have shown early exposure to bovine milk may predispose an infant to type 1 diabetes, whereas other studies show no causality. The American Society of Animal Science published an article in 2014 after reviewing health issues arising from the rBST debate. The article indicated "there are no new human health issues related to the use of rBST by the dairy industry. Use of rBST has no effect on the micro- and macrocomposition of milk.
